How it all started?
While in college I had moved through different majors to finally settle on Information Systems. In the early '80's it was a rather obscure area of study with few people but rather exciting technology! Fresh out of school I was lucky to get on board at the university data center and work my way up. And like all academic settings there were some rather eccentric people who would prove to be very valuable sources of additional knowledge.
After some seven years of growing within the ranks I found myself at a crossroads. Wanting to move up with no where to move to. So, in 1987, I moved out to my first fortune 500 company and starting working my way up there. Eventually leaving that company and trying my hand back at a university data center one more time, I finally landed at Fidelity Investments working in one of their IT groups. I was lucky enough to get assigned to head up Year 2000 program for a division of the company. With this came the need to be in Boston and NY City with a periodic trip to Dallas. With all this traveling I happen to be flying in to Logan airport with one of the VP's on the same flight. He had noticed I was traveling all the time and took me aside to give me some pointers on how to make it easier to deal with.
From there its been nothing but traveling for work with a slight layover while helping my mother through her battle with cancer. That grounding lasted for five years when, after she had passed away, I got on board with a Disaster Recovery Consulting firm only to be later hired on at IBM's Business Resilience group. Now its non-stop travel most every week. Some people find this too stressful being away from home all the time. For me, its just like it was in the '90's, well almost. Just not as much fun and excitement! But that comes from all the new regulations that have been put in place. - Christopher Lee
