My Travel Photos

Here is a collection of the photos from recent trips including my Western Mediterranean Cruise over Thanksgiving 2008.  Working on digitizing some underwater photos from a few of the dive trips I've been on also.
We docked at the port of Loverno, Leghorn Italy.  This is the closest sea port to Florence, Pisa and Tuscany.  The excursion I selected for the day was a wine tasting at a Tuscan Vineyard several miles inland.  Here are some of the photos from the day!

This photo was taken near the end of the wine tasting.   That day I thought I had found a new favorite wine!

The villa where we had our wine tasting event.

The vineyards out behind the villa.
The next day we docked at Civitavecchia the nearest sea port to Rome.  I had signed up for a day trip that would follow in the footsteps of the move Angles and Demons.  Unfortunately that outing was canceled.  The next closest one was the trip to the Vatican and other churches of Rome.  It turned out to be a very exciting trip!
The following photos are all taken from within the Vatican.

One of the many tour groups there at the time.

Entrance to St Peters Tomb

Being one of the Tourists, the audio guide proved to be very helpful!

One of the many Swiss Guards!  There are many more without the uniform, in plain cloths.

The following day we docked at Naples.  From there I was scheduled to take the tour of Pompeii followed by a visit to another Vineyard.

A courtyard garden area for one of the villas.  It was sealed off to preserve it.

An ampatheater area, very well preserved after being buried all these years.

At the end of the tour of Pompeii you can see the parts of the city in the background

The restored and replanted vineyards of Pompeii.  The vines are planted right next to the vines destroyed in Pompeii thousands of years ago.  Mastroberadino Vineyard is the only group allowed to grow their vines here.  They have one wine, Villa of the Mysteries Pompeii from these vines grown in the same soil that the citizens of Pompeii tilled.
